The huge contribution of Ganesh Vachnalaya i.e. referred library may not be properly accommodated in the limits of any proforma. The library has been actively participating
in stirring the cultural and literature oriented movement in the region. It makes us proud to be associated with this association on various grounds.
Firstly it is more than 100 Years old having established in the year1901. Secondly, it was established by a team of Freedom Fighters. During those days the then Nizam Govt. of the erst while Hyderabad state had imposed a Ban on all Political and Religious activities, hence the under a Garb of Cultural activities, this lairise was Founded , witch library gave rise to many political activists who fought against the British and Nizam Rule of Hyderabad state . The Library has seen many ups and downs, but is now on a steady footing. having a Govt. Recognized status of a Dist. Library with A Grade.
It has two buildings of its own and in the premises of new building, there is scope for further expansion.
Thirdly the library has become a hub of literary and cultural activities, with many literary persons taking part in its activities.
The library is working with two basic objectives.
1 Support to Marathi literature writers.
2 Increasing the quality readership.
Let us have an insight in the role of library played in these two sectors.
1 Support to Marathi literature writers:
A)The library provides support to senior and beginner writers for their cause. Critics and writers need specific books for reference purpose for their own writing. The writers not only from the district but from different corners of Marathwada region approach the library for want of books. Being one of the oldest libraries in the state and that to with a huge collection of books, this is one of the most important sources for locating specific books
B) The library helps in publishing the books to new writers. It organizes the programs of publishing the books at the hands of giants in marathi literature. This provides a boost to the authors and they receive critical comments and advise from these programmes.
C) The library has done a historical work done by publishing the literature of late B. Raghunath (1913-1952), a renowned writer now in marathi literature. The huge literature of B. Raghunath was available in scattered and unpublished manner which eventually could not reach the readers. The literature of B.Raghunath in the form of 7 Novels, 150 poems and six story books is collectively published by the library in three parts as ‘SAMAGRA B. RAGHUNATH’. Now, Late B. Raghunath is accepted by critics as ‘Father of new marathi story writing’. The writer like B. raghunath is brought into limelight from clouds of darkness, the library is proud to take the credit of this work. This is identified and accepted by marathi world as significant contribution of library in the field of literature.
D) For improvement in writing, writers need impetus and interaction with the senior writers. The library tries to bring the critics and writers to share a platform by organizing discussions regarding books . The books not only from the district but from different parts of Maharashtra state are selected for this purpose. The critics to comment on the book are invited and writer is given a chance to spell out his view towards his own writing. This helps the writers in identifying their lacunae and help remove the same. It may be noted that library has been working at state level and not merely as a district library.
2 Increasing the quality readership : It is being worriedly stated that youth and children are not interested in reading these days. The readership is encroached by various media like television channels, internet etc. The library understands that the key to personality development is reading. In an attempt to attract youth and children to library no
efforts are spared. The list of programs organized by library as mentioned in Performa will suffice to prove its attempts in this direction. The library even invited magicians for interaction with children and also sponsored
chess competition. The purpose is to introduce the new generation to the world of books. The data regarding increasing readership is enough to indicate that all such attempts have been successful.
